About me:
Hi, and thanks for visiting. I'm a tech executive, investor, and advisor with a focus on healthcare. I use this website to share ideas on growing, operating, and investing in health tech companies. You can subscribe here to get updated posts in your email every Tuesday and Thursday.
I've spent more than 20 years building technology companies, including Bamboo Health, PatientPing, Zocdoc, and Next Jump.
I was born and raised in a small town in Massachusetts, spent three years in San Francisco, ten in New York City, and now live in the South End neighborhood of Boston with my wife and dog.
Investing & Advising
I invest in and advise early-stage health technology companies. I try to focus on companies where I can be a unique value-add by providing insights from my personal experience and network. Select investments include:
Ferry Health
Legion Health
Piction Health
Taro Health
Unmute
Vital.io
The companies that interest me most have one or some of the following characteristics:
Network effects. Products that become more valuable as more people use them.
Marketplaces. Platforms where buyers and sellers transact.
Product-led. Health tech needs to move past the point of building products to comply with regulations, where the quality of distribution is inordinately more important than the quality of the product experience.
Reshape incentives. One of the reasons that technology hasn’t brought down the cost of care in a material way is that the incentives of the major stakeholders in U.S. healthcare are not well aligned. A patient’s primary objective when it comes to their health is to live a long, healthy life. The incentives, economics, and structure of the healthcare system are generally not aligned with this goal over the long term. I get extremely excited when I see companies whose business models or products fundamentally align the incentives of patients, providers, and payers.
